Your Treatment Journey

Patients take many different paths on their way to Carolinas Dental Sleep Center, but all are searching for the same thing; a restful night’s sleep. Carolinas Dental Sleep Center can help you achieve the great night’s sleep you deserve, starting with a free Sleep Consultation.

Our Patients

  • Dental patients can be found to have excessive wear on the teeth which may indicate grinding or acid reflux. This is often the result of your body’s attempt to improve flow through the airway.
  • Patients who snore don’t just disturb the sleep of their families. Snoring is caused by abnormal, turbulent airflow and has a positive correlation with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • If you have excessive daytime fatigue, it could be related to sleep fragmentation and not your busy lifestyle.
  • Many patients come to Carolinas Dental Sleep Center with documented OSA and are looking for an alternative to CPAP.

Sleep Disorder Diagnosis

A formal sleep test is the gold standard for diagnosing a multitude of sleep disorders, including OSA. During a sleep test, multiple aspects of your sleep are measured, including:

  • Apneas (episdoes when you stop breathing)
  • Oxygen levels
  • Leg and arm movements
  • Brain waves

This test is the standard by which sleep physicians make a diagnosis of OSA and is REQUIRED by insurance companies before they will cover treatment for sleep apnea or other sleep disorders.

Carolinas Dental Sleep Center will refer you to an outside sleep lab who will contact you regarding payment and scheduling. Once you have completed the sleep study and we have received the results our office will contact you to discuss diagnosis and treatment options.

Treatment Cost

As a courtesy to our patients, Carolinas Dental Sleep Center will request an estimate of coverage from your insurance company. In order to verify your benefits, insurance companies require four pieces of information.

  1. A scanned copy of your medical insurance card
  2. A completed sleep questionnaire
  3. Information regarding your primary care provider
  4. And a sleep test with a diagnosis of sleep apnea

Each insurance company is different, and each person has a different plan. The verification of benefits is only an ESTIMATE of your possible out-of-pocket and can range from $2500 to $500. All questions regarding specific plan policies and coverage should be addressed by the patient to their insurance company.

Treatment starts with a free consultation.

  1. Free Consult: Symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options discussed
  2. Impressions and Payment: If a Mandibular Advancement Device is right for you, impressions are taken to achieve a custom fit. Your estimated out-of-pocket is also collected at this time.
  3. Delivery: Typically 3 weeks following impressions, delivery involves insuring fit, performing any required adjustments, and education on use and care of the device.
  4. Follow up: Approximately every 2-4 weeks to make adjustments, evaluate for treatment effectiveness, and treat side effects
  5. Repeat sleep study: Required to ensure that Obstructive Sleep Apnea has been treated effectively
  6. Annual recall: Yearly follow up is essential to continued success of treatment and prevention of side effects
